TRANS:T - WINNER REMIX CONTEST
Ekzail lives in Spain, how was your collaboration and how was the production process with such a distance between the two of you?
Actually, that went easier than I expected. Ekzail had sent me a demo with a liquid Drum & Bass drop and elements that are also reflected in the break as it is now. I flipped the voices I got and made the version practically as it sounds now. For final details we looked at the project together via Zoom, just by sharing my screen and sound with him. That worked pretty nice for me, anyway.
Who came up with the idea of doing a drum n bass track?
That was Ekzail. I knew him from ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) and he knew me as a producer who made Drum & Bass. He sent a dm with the demo and asking if I wanted to make a remix with him.
What were your expectations after sending a drum n bass version of "Losing My Head" knowing it was going to be released on STMPD?
Anyway, my expectations were very low right from the beginning. I personally thought the remix was very hard when it was finished, I just didn't think it would be something for STMPD. The production was solid, but then it still has to fit their alley. We were lucky that Julian himself likes this genre and it is also nice that it fits with his high energy on stage so he closes his sets with it. That is very sick to see and far above what I expected from the contest.
What went through your mind when you heard you had won the remix contest?
After we appeared in the video on STMPD as 'finalists' and saw Julian's reaction I already had a hunch they would want to release it. A bit later we got the email that we could release it and it was also played at a sold out Martin Garrix event by Julian and that's quite sick to see then. You don't think about that when you are producing and even when the remix won I didn't feel it would do much. But seeing a crowd go wild to your track was the real realization for me.
