Graduate MTM student Alexine Sakkers recently released her first release called 'Dreaming never felt so good'. This new catchy release with a poignant message is completely written and produced by herself and the result is absolutely stunning! We asked Alexine to tell us more about her new release.

How did this release come about? Were you able to draw inspiration from somewhere?

I got the idea to make an explosive chorus with abrupt stops and from which the chorus of "dreaming never felt so good" emerged. I started as I always actually start writing a song: on my guitar, and knew almost immediately when I had the idea that I wanted to work it out and eventually release it.

The song was produced, written and performed by you. Can you tell us a little more about this process? Are there any special things you came across while making "Dreaming never felt so good"?

I wrote the song on Jan. 1, 2022, after which I began producing the demo almost immediately. The first version was finally finished in February 2022, but after a little less than a year I picked up the project again since I had grown in my writing and production skills and I was no longer happy with how it sounded. I then made the final version in a few months, which was quite a difference from the original version of the song. Making this song taught me a lot about how I look at instruments and how to use them, and how to differentiate that.

What is your personal favorite aspect of "dreaming never felt so good" and why?

I think I'm most proud of the drum production of the track. I had a specific idea in my head of how I wanted the drums to blend into the track, but since I pretty much never put drums into my tracks before I made this song, I didn't really know where to start. I ended up using a mix of samples with self-recorded drums to get a dance groove with a humanized feel.
